چکیده

The interfacial properties of the system hematite/dicarboxylic acid were investigated in the presence of sodium perchlorate by means of adsorption, zeta potential and surface potential measurements. Maleic and fumaric acid were used as dicarboxylic acids. No significant difference in the surface potential values of hematite with and without the presence of dicarboxylic acids was observed. On the other hand, the zeta potential and the corresponding isoelectric point values obtained after adsorption of fumaric and maleic acids on hematite differ significantly from the zeta potential values of pure hematite. The parameters characterizing the electrical interfacial layer were determined on the basis of simultaneous interpretation of experimental data showing that there are some differences in adsorption behavior of two investigated dicarboxylic acids. The obtained equilibrium constant for adsorption of fumaric acid (logK ° = 4.9 ± 0.2) is higher than the same constant obtained for adsorption of maleic acid (logK° = 4.0 ± 0.1) and the value of C1 was in both cases determined as 2.2 ± 0.3 F m. Interfacial and rheological properties of humic acid/hematite suspensions.

This work deals with the effect of humic acid (HA) adsorption on the interfacial properties, the stability, and the rheology of aqueous iron oxide (hematite) suspensions. It is first of all demonstrated that HA effectively adsorbs onto hematite, mainly at acid pH. Since the charge of the HA chains is negative, it will be electrostatically attracted to the hematite surface below the point of zer...

The Behavior of Carbon Steel in Artificial Cooling Water in Presence of Hydroxyphosphonoacetic Acid and Different Oxygen Content Using Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy

This paper presents the results of the interfacial evolution of 1018 steel exposed to artificial cooling water in presence of two different environments: the oxygen content and the 1,2-hydroxyphosphonoacetic acid (HPA). The aerated solution in presence of HPA supported two processes; the first was the sequestration of calcium ions with the subsequent complexation of the calcium carbonate (CaCO3...

Metal ions: driving the orderly assembly of polyelectrolytes at a hydrophobic surface.

The accumulation of polyelectrolytes at the interface between water and nonpolar fluids is an important process in both environmental and biological systems. For instance, polyelectrolytes such as humic acids are highly charged molecules that play a role in the remediation of water contaminated by oil, and the adsorption of other polyelectrolytes such as proteins and DNA to cellular surfaces is...

Photoelectrochemical activity of as-grown, α-Fe2O3 nanowire array electrodes for water splitting.

Undoped hematite nanowire arrays grown using plasma oxidation of iron foils show significant photoactivity (~0.38 mA cm(-2) at 1.5 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode in 1 M KOH). In contrast, thermally oxidized nanowire arrays grown on iron exhibit no photoactivity due to the formation of a thick (>7 μm Fe(1-x)O) interfacial layer. An atmospheric plasma oxidation process required only a few...

Molecular dynamic simulation of dicarboxylic acid coated aqueous aerosol: structure and processing of water vapor.

Organic monolayers at the surfaces of aqueous aerosols play an important role in determining the mass, heat transfer rate and surface reactivity of atmospheric aerosols. They can potentially contribute to the formation of cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) and are involved in a series of chemical reactions occurring in atmosphere. Recent studies even suggest that organic-coated interfaces could ha...
